The world’s leading food service brands with more than 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries fast-food chain McDonald’s China has opened its 1st zero carbon restaurant in Beijing, part of its move to open more new green outlets in China.
Powered by over 2,000 m2 of on-site solar panels, the restaurant can reduce about 200 tonnes of carbon emissions annually’
McDonald’s is undertaking a campaign to improve energy and water efficiency, down to the design of its restaurants. Already, recent design changes to its U.S. stores has cut electricity consumption by more than 16 percent and water use by 19 percent.
By 2025, the company says, 100 percent of its packaging will come from renewable, recycled or certified sources.
